The Iron Mountain Stringband is an old time southern mountain style band which draws much of its material from original field recordings made in Southwest Virginia and North Carolina. Included in the Band's repertoire are old time ballads, breakdowns and songs. Especially important to the Band is the spirit of this old time music, and that the music be performed with its originality, integrity and beauty. The Band has been in existence since 1961, and is composed of Eric Davidson on banjo, Caled Finch and fiddle, and Brooke Moyer on guitar. The Band has three albums out on Folkways and two albums on Peachbotttom Records entitled "Songs of Old Time America" and "If I Go Ten Thousand Miles." in addition, some songs of the Band were included in two recent compilations released by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings entitled "Classic Old-Time Music" (2003) and "Classic Railroad Songs" (2006). The Band has traveled and played in a variety of nightclubs, festivals, colleges and music houses on both the East and West Coasts. They have performed numerous times on "Folk Scene" and the John David Show on KPFM/FM, as well as on Frank Hoppe's "Bluegrass Express" on KCSN/FM here in Los Angeles. The Band performed music for the soundtrack of "The Dollmaker," a major television network movie produced by and starring Jane Fonda (musical score by John Rubenstein), originally televised in May of 1984. KCET, the local Los Angeles PBS station, profiled the Band in a special feature on "Videolog." |
